Project from the Summer: Rusty Parrot
Project from the Summer: Rusty Parrot
Deconstructing the Rusty Parrot: A Unique Summer Project in Philipsburg
This summer, the FKG team took on a project unlike many of our usual marine assignments: the deconstruction and removal of the Rusty Parrot, a well-known pirate ship replica in Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
The Rusty Parrot was a purpose-built structure designed to look like a pirate ship and had become a familiar part of the local waterfront. After years as a local attraction, it had reached the end of its useful life and was ready to be removed.
The project required careful planning, coordination and hands-on work to safely dismantle the structure and clear the site. The team worked through the different stages of the deconstruction, breaking the structure down into manageable sections and managing the logistics of removing those sections from the site.
Projects like this highlight the versatility of the FKG team. While our work often focuses on yacht services, repairs, refit support and marine operations, our experience allows us to take on a wide range of specialised projects where practical expertise, problem-solving and teamwork are essential.

Team Spotlight: Meet FKG’s Seakeeper Master Technicians
Meet FKG’s Seakeeper Master Technicians
For this quarter’s FKG Team Spotlight, we’re celebrating three members of our technical team who have recently achieved an important professional milestone.
Following two weeks of specialist training hosted by Seakeeper at our facility in Sint Maarten, three FKG technicians successfully qualified as Seakeeper Master Technicians.
The intensive training provided the team with the opportunity to further develop their knowledge of Seakeeper systems, strengthen their diagnostic and servicing skills, and work directly with Seakeeper’s training specialists.
The sessions also highlighted the experience already within the FKG technical team. Seakeeper Training Manager Jeff Pittman noted the technicians’ strong knowledge and experience, as well as their engagement throughout the training.
For us, this achievement is about more than a qualification. It reflects the FKG team’s commitment to continuous development and to maintaining the highest level of technical expertise for the yachts we support.
With three newly qualified Master Technicians on the team, FKG is further strengthening its Seakeeper expertise and the specialist support available to clients throughout the Caribbean.
Congratulations to the team on this achievement — and thank you for continuing to raise the bar!
